When DataVision 2007 is first started, you are
presented with the Connections list. This displays
shortcuts to databases that you have setup. It allows
you to create new shortcuts, and open, close and edit
existing ones. Below is an example of the Connections
list. |

The Selection Tree is the main navigation view for an
open database connection. This view by default is docked
to the left side of the window. It displays folders or
'nodes' for the Tables, Views, Queries, Stored
Procedures, Functions, Users, and Reports associated
with the database connection. |
| Selecting a 'node' will change the main
view to the right side of the window. Below is an
example of the Selection Tree for the example
'Northwind' database. 'Quick Jump' buttons along the top
of the Selection Tree allow for instant navigation
between common views, as well as expanding and
collapsing of the tree. |

Below the Selection Tree
by default, is the Field List. This view displays the
columns of the currently active dataset. Each column has
it's name, data type, size, precision and other provider
specific attributes listed across the view. |
| Selecting a column name will move that
column into view in the Data Grid.
Below is an example of the Field List. |

The Data Grid is the main editing area for any
tabular data. This grid has two main views; 'Basic' and
'Advanced'. The 'Basic' view is for fast general editing
in a standard 'spreadsheet' like fashion. The 'Advanced'
view allows all of the editing features of the 'Basic'
view with the added ability to group, sort, and create
complex filters. |
|

'Advanced' Data Grid.

|
| Both the 'Basic' and 'Advanced' views have
a comprehensive 'Pop-up' menu (Right-click) to allow for
standard editing, printing/previewing, sorting,
hiding/showing columns, exporting and externally editing
fields. The 'Record View..' menu brings up a new window
to display the current record in a vertical view making
'wide' records easier to read and edit. |

When simple table view just isn't enough, the SQL
Editor allows for the creation of complex SQL queries.
This editor provides SQL syntax-highlighting,
auto-completion, and code formatting at the 'tips of you
fingers'. |
| Auto-completion, context sensitive menus,
and user definable templates allow you to create complex
error free SQL easier than ever. |

99% of the time a grid provides a very good editing
view, however it doesn't always give the easiest way to
edit and view larger text and image fields. |
| DataVision 2007 allows the viewing
and editing of text and graphics fields in their own
view at the bottom of the main grid. This view is
resizable allowing you to use as much space as needed.
Standard features like Cut, Copy & Paste are
available as well as very helpful functions like 'Load
from File' and 'Save to File'. |
